Calculating the Daily Loss Limit

How is the daily loss limit (drawdown) calculated?

The daily loss limit is calculated based on your account balance at the end of the previous day (5 PM EST). Here’s how it works:

  1. End of Previous Day Balance:
    • Determine your account balance at the end of the previous day (5 PM EST).
  2. Daily Loss Calculation:
    • Calculate 5% of this balance.
    • For example, if your account balance at the end of the previous day is $100,000, 5% of this is $5,000.
    • If your equity the next day drops below $95,000, you have exceeded the daily loss limit.
  3. Start of the Day:
    • The beginning of the day is the zero hour of the broker.
    • This is indicated by a vertical line when the "Show Period Separator" option is activated in MetaTrader.
